Academic Year
The academic year at NTUU KPI starts on September 1 and ends on June 30.
Tuition and exams are divided in two terms called the Fall and the Spring Semesters. The Fall semester traditionally starts on the 1st of September, which is called the Knowledge Day with the freshmen inauguration ceremony and other festivities. Fall semester lasts till late December and finishes with the credit week when students receive credits on a selected number of subjects. Fall semester examinations, called Fall Exams Session, which may include exams on up to five courses, last 2 weeks in January, and are followed by fortnight-long winter vocations. The Spring semester starts on the second week of February, lasts till late May, and finishes with the credits week followed by the Spring Exams Session, which lasts 2 weeks in June. July-August is the period of summer vocations for both faculty and students.
This calendar is described with humour in a popular students' hymn: "A student's always happy in between the sessions, and these are fought with only twice a year".
To get Bachelor Degree students study 18 weeks in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th semesters (30 credits each), and 19 weeks in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th semesters (31.5 credits each). Exams last for 2 weeks each semester. Students have 3 weeks of Practical Study during the third Academic Year. During the last 8th semester students have 9 regular study weeks, 1 week for exams, and 9 weeks for Diploma Practical Work and Diploma Thesis writing.
Time Schedule
All classes for each group of students are planned in advance: the current schedule, the time-table of lectures and practical classes for each group are prepared by the Dean's Office, and is available to all students at the very beginning of each semester. Daytime lectures usually start in between 8 - 10 a.m. Evening classes for part-time students usually start at 18.30.
