RECTORS OF NTUU KPI

KIRPICHEV VICTOR LVOVICH (1845-1913)
Victor Lvovich Kirpichev became the first rector of Kiev Polytechnic Institute in 1898.
Among his students were A. Krylov, B. Galerkin, I. Bubnov, S. Timoshenko. He was famous for his textbook "Resistivity of Materials". Victor Kirpichev was an author of the first publications in Russia devoted to the safety at the industrial plants.
Victor Kirpichev was born on September 26, 1945 in Saint-Petersburg. He graduated from Michailov Academy of Artillery in 1870. He worked as a teacher of mechanics in Saint-Petersburg Technological Institute. Victor Kirpichev actively participated in the establishment of Kharkov Polytechnic Institute. He was its first rector in 1885.
Victor Kirpichev created the concept of polytechnic institutes in Russia. According to his ideas, polytechnic institutes had to become the centers of achievements in science, research, technology and teaching, and should help to develop student’s creativity and research ability. He said that the graduate of polytechnic institute should be a good specialist in his area, and a versatile and well-educated person.

DENISENKO GEORGIY IVANOVICH(1919-1998)
Rector of KPI in 1971-1987.
Georgiy Denisenko was born on April 29, 1919 in a village Hodoriv near Kiev. He studied in Kharkiv Electrotechnical Institute till World War II. He fought for home and country on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War. Then he was a teacher in the Military College in Samarcand and the lecture of the High Officers School of Mobile Artillery in Moscow. He graduated from Lviv Polytechnic Institute in 1948. Georgiy Ivanovich Denisenko lived in Lviv from 1946-1971, and was the Rector of Lviv Polytechnic Institute in 1963-1971.
In 1971 he became the Rector of Kiev Polytechnic Institute, and started the great construction of KPI campus. Thanks to his efforts the number of buildings has increased in 3 times.
Among his scientific interests were renewable energy sources. He founded the scientific school of electricity transportation with AC/DC general grids.
He was awarded the Title of the Hero of the Socialist Labor of the USSR.
Now the main Science and Technical Library of NTUU KPI is named after Georgiy Ivanovich Denisenko.

TALANCHUK PETRO MYKHAILOVYCH (born in 1939)
Rector of KPI in 1987-1992.
Petro Talanchuk was born on July 1, 1939 in a village Gorodishe near Kiev. He graduated from Kiev Polytechnic Institute in 1965. Petro Mykhailovych Talanchuk is the Doctor of Technical Science, Professor.
In 1989 he was elected the Deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Petro Mykhailovych Talanchuk was the first Minister of Education and Science of independent Ukraine in 1992-1994. In 1994 Petro Mykhailovych Talanchuk was an independent candidate on the Presidential Elections.
Now Petro Talanchuk is the President of the Academy of Engineering Science of Ukraine. He is a Corresponding member of the Academy of Pedagogical Science of Ukraine, a member of four international academies.
Petro Mykhailovych Talanchuk is the President of Open International University of Human Development "Ukraine".

ZGUROVSKY MICHAEL ZAHAROVICH (born in 1950)
Rector of NTUU KPI since 1992.
Michael Zgurovsky was born on January 30, 1950 in Scala-Podilska in. He studied at the College of Control Systems of Kiev Polytechnic Institute, and graduated from Kiev Polytechnic Institute in 1975.
Michael Zgurovsky is the Doctor of Technical Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. During 1994-1999 Michael Zgurovsky was the Minister of Education of Ukraine.
Michael Zgurovsky is the Director of the Institute for Applied System Analysis of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Among his scientific interests are sustainable development, system analysis, decision making under uncertainty conditions, and analysis and modeling of complex systems of various nature. Michael Zgurovsky is an author of more that 300 scientific publications, including 22 books published in different countries. He has made 25 inventions.Michael Zaharovich Zgurovsky is the President of the Association of Rectors of Technical Universities of Ukraine. He is a Member of the Academies of Science of many countries, and many international educational institutions, Senior Member of IEEE, Member of the Governing Board of UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (Moscow, Russia), the National Representative of Ukraine in CODATA, Member of EDNES, National Representative of Ukraine in ICSU.
