Delegation of the Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine in NTUU “KPI”  12.02.2010

On February 12, 2010 Christopher Fitzgerald, Counselor for Public Affairs, Susan Cleary, Cultural Affairs Attache, Timothy Standaert, assistant cultural affairs officer, Vira Ternavska, specialist on education, as members of delegation of the Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine, visited NTUU “KPI”.

Tymopheev, Deputy first Vice-Rector on educational work, V.A. Barbash, Deputy Vice-Rector on scientific work, B.A. Tsyganok, head of the International Relations Department, E.I. Polischuk, head of Department for Cooperation with International, Regional, National Organizations and Foreign Countries represented NTUU “KPI on the meeting.

The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with NTUU “KPI”, and to discuss the cooperation perspectives between NTUU “KPI” and universities of the USA.

Guests were acquainted with NTUU “KPI” infrastructure, the exposition of State Polytechnic Museum of Ukraine affiliated to NTUU “KPI”, and the Department of Aviation and Cosmonautics History named after Igor Sikorsky, discussed the possible cooperation with NTUU "KPI" in the area of teachers and students exchange to attract them to the US educational programs, the possibility for US scientists to visit and to share their experience with teachers and students of NTUU "KPI", the cooperation in the fundamental science and research.

Representatives of the Embassy of the United States of America told about possibilities for students and teachers to participate in the following international exchange programs: Fulbright, Edmund Muskie, Hubert Humphry etc.

Rector M.Z. Zgurovsky thanked for the visit and expressed hopes that it would be the beginning of the future cooperation with NTUU “KPI”, and determined such problem in KPI as insufficient information about possibilities which the United States can provide students and teachers. Creation of the information center in the university can be one of the ways to improve the situation.

Rector invited representatives of the Embassy to use university for the notable events, round tables, conferences holding. It is effective niche for the work with young people.

Construction of the Ukrainian-Korean Educational Center of Information Technologies begins at NTUU “KPI”   28.01.2010

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine and representatives of the Korean International Cooperation Agency took part in the ceremony of the Ukrainian-Korean Education Center of Information Technologies construction start-up. The ceremony took place at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” on January 28, 2010.

The purpose of establishment of the Ukrainian-Korean Educational IT Center is to transfer the Korean experience and knowledge in area of IT through development of the curriculum and the teaching materials. Also Center will support the development of human resources, which will satisfy the demands of modern industry. The Ukrainian-Korean Educational IT Center can also be considered as a model of the cooperation between Ukraine and Korea.

The idea of the Ukrainian-Korean Education IT Center was expressed by the former Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine His Excellency Mr. Ho Sun Chol during the visit to NTUU “KPI”. This idea was accepted by NTUU “KPI” with thanks.

The project was started based on the following agreements:
Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of Korea about grant assistance and technical cooperation from 20.10.2005,
and Agreement (in the form of notes exchange) between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of Korea about the realization of the “Project of the Ukrainian-Korean Education IT Center Establishment” at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.

In autumn of 2008 the Notes of Meeting between the representatives of the Korean International Cooperation Agency and the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” regarding the Center’s establishment were signed. After the visit of Julia Tymoshenko, the Prime-Minister of Ukraine, to Republic of Korea in summer of 2009 the project was registered in Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.

For the period passed from that time the parties have made a significant progress in the preparation of project’s technical specifications with the help of “UkrEnergoNaladka” Design and Construction Company. The University has also determined the construction site.
The Center will prepare IT specialists, carry out joint projects, and help to establish friendly relationships between the participants. In other words Center will accomplish the function of the “Bridge of Friendship” between Republic of Korea and Ukraine.

First Secretary of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ukraine Mr. Mahmud Ezzati Azar visited NTUU “KPI”   27.01.2010

First Secretary of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ukraine Mr. Mahmud Ezzati Azar visited NTUU “KPI” on January 27, 2010.

Mr. Mahmud Ezzati Azar was informed about the preparation of foreign specialists in the university, in particular, with the conditions of the Iranian students study, and has discussed the problems of cooperation between Iranian and Ukrainian universities, which started in 1994.

NTUU “KPI” has already signed the Cooperation Agreements with Mazandar University of Science and Technology, Iranian University of Science and Technology of Tehran, Tehran Institute of Colors, Paints and Coatings.

International Cooperation Department of NTUU “KPI” is fruitfully cooperating with the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ukraine. Visits of the Embassy representatives, and the delegations of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Islamic Republic of Iran were organized on the regular basis.

Visit of Igor Loginov, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine in the Islamic Republic of Iran to NTUU KPI took place in 2009. The purpose of that meeting was to change the curriculum of NTUU “KPI” in conformity with new requirements of the global markets and global economy based on knowledge and relations between the educational and scientific communities of Ukraine and the new international markets of education, labour, science and technology.

Prohorov, Deputy Dean of the International Faculty, O.A. Ischenko, Director of Students’ Campus represented NTUU “KPI” at the meeting with Mr. Mahmud Ezzati Azar, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ukraine.

Vice-rector G. B. Varlamov congratulated Mr. Mahmud Ezzati Azar on his high appointment, informed about the history of KPI, where more than 70 Iranian students study, and pointed directions of the educational and scientific cooperation.

Mr. Mahmud Ezzati Azar also had a meeting with the Iranian students of NTUU “KPI” to find out more regarding the conditions of their life and study in Ukraine.

Mr. Daniel Caron, Ambassador of Canada in Ukraine visited NTUU KPI  16.12.2009

On December 16, 2009 Mr. Daniel Caron, his Excellency Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Canada in Ukraine visited NTUU KPI. Mr. Daniel Caron made a speech ”Collaboration: Canada –Ukraine” to the students and lecturers of the University.

The relationships between Canada and Ukraine has a long history, stretching back to the end of the 19th century with the arrival of the first Ukrainian immigrants to Canada. Since then, bilateral ties have increased in importance, culminating in 1991 when Canada became the first western country to recognize an independent Ukraine. Canada remains a strong supporter of Ukrainian independence and the integration of Ukraine into the trans-Atlantic political, economic and security space. Today, the Canada-Ukraine relationship encompasses political, trade, defense and security relations, as well as technical assistance and people-to-people contacts.

Consular representation was established before Ukraine’s independence. Canada’s diplomatic presence has grown to include representatives of the departments of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; the Canadian International Development Agency; Citizenship and Immigration; and National Defense.

A recent series of successful high level visits has served to enhance our bilateral relations. These include, most notably, the state visit of President Yushchenko to Ottawa, Winnipeg and Toronto in May 2008; Governor General Jean reciprocated with a state visit to Kiev and Lviv in April 2009. In another milestone, in September 2009, Mr. Lawrence Canon, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs , and Mr. Volodymyr Khandogiy, Ukraine’s Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs , signed a document setting out priority areas of cooperation between our two countries.

Mr. Daniel Caron mentioned that Ukraine is a key European partner for Canada, and Canada will remain fully engaged in supporting the development of democracy and the rule of law in an independent Ukraine.

The meeting was held in a warm and amicable atmosphere.

Mr. Ambassador answered the questions put by the University students, which were interested in studying in Canada, and activities of students trade union organizations of the country.

Joint Program of Indianapolis University and NTUU KPI  29.10.2009

On October 26-29, 2009 the delegation of Indianapolis University consisting of its Chancellor Prof. Vasillis Botopoulos and Vice-chancellor Susie Michailidis was working at NTUU KPI.

The purpose of the visit was the discussion of collaboration in the frames of the Agreement on cooperation and scientific exchange between NTUU KPI and University of Indianapolis, Athens, discussion of the project on the program’s initiating Double Diploma, determination of priority directions on cooperation in education and of credit-module system, study the possibilities of included education and mobility.

The guests had the meetings with the University administration, deans of faculties and students.

Vice-chancellor Prof. Susie Michailidis made presentation of the Indianapolis University, which is a private institution that provides a transformational education experience through strong programs in the liberal arts and sciences, selective professional and doctoral programs, collaborative partnerships throughout the city and the world. She told about advantages of study at the university, tuition fees, requirements to students, opportunity to get double diploma.

First Vice-rector of NTUU KPI Prof. Ju.Yakymenko made presentation of the main trends of joint program Indianapolis University and NTUU KPI. Due to this program students of KPI will be invited to study at the Indianapolis University. 10 following programs of NTUU KPI similar to Indianapolis university were determined: Communication, Accounting, International Business, Marketing, Sociology, Business Administration, Computer Sciences, Informatics Systems, Management.

International HighMatTech Conference   23.10.2009

The history of the International HighMatTech conference began at the end of the 80th of the last century, when, on the initiative of Prof. K. Lilius, famous Finnish scientist, a system of scientific conferences-exhibitions with the participation of scientists and specialists from the East and West of Europe by the name MatTech began to develop. Such world-known scientists as A. Prohorov, the Nobel Prize laureate, B.Paton, president of Ukrainian Academy of Science, academicians I. Frinliander, V. Trefilov, I. Pohodnia, V. Skorohod, V. Semynozhenko and many others participated in these events.

As a result of the USSR collapse, difficulties of the material science development under new economic conditions, promotion of the relations between material scientists of the East and West had some difficulties.

I. M. Frantsevych Institute of Material Science together with Ukrainian Material Science Community decided to resume holding the International conference on material science. Such conference was held in Kyiv in 2007.

On October 19-23, 2009 next International HighMatTech conference, devoted to the newest achievements in the field of material science, was held in NTUU “KPI”.

Leading specialists and scientists of the Republic of Austria, National Democratic Republic of Algeria, the State of Israel, Canada, Republic of Latvia, Federal Republic of Germany, Republic of Poland, USA, Turkish Republic, Republic of Uzbekistan, Czech Republic, Kingdom of Sweden and Japan participated that conference.

The results of the International HighMatTech-2009 conference will promote information and scientific knowledge exchange, expansion of NTUU “KPI” scientists’ participation in the international and European programs, including the 7th Framework Program of the EU, EUREKA program, entering in the world scientific space, adjusting relations between material scientists and industrial enterprises and also students’ immersion in the scientific and research work.
