POLYTECHNIC MUSEUM
Old steam locomotive named "Lamb" (series ОВ) that you can see on the picture to your left is located near the building of the State Polytechnic Museum, which has an incredible collection of technological artifacts in 13 research fields from all ages of University history, Ukrainian history, and the world's history. Polytechnic Museum is an independent branch of the University’s research, and at the same time, an integral part of cultural and educational life of NTUU KPI.
The State Polytechnic Museum was opened at NTUU KPI in 1995. Current Museum building, which occupies the former University workshops in the Academic building No. 6, and was opened on September 14, 1998 by Ex-President Leonid Kuchma to celebrate the 100 anniversary of Kiev Polytechnic Institute.
The Museum has 9 rooms, and offers something for everyone. In Computer Science and Astronautics section you can find, for example, first in Russia Telephone Exchange Station made in 1886; first Ukrainian city vehicle "Zaporozhets"; vacuum-tube radio-gramophones; old record players; TV with a screen dimension equal to the box of matches; the oldest computer, which looks like a small house; presses and planes. Here you can find any artifact that goes, floats, flies, and thus roars, gnashes and clanks.
